On-campus by a test administrator when a student develops COVID-19 symptoms during the school day.  DO NOT send your child to school sick, we offer off-campus testing.  If your child does not have a consent form on file prior to testing, you will be asked to pick up your child and follow the COVID-19 return to school protocol until a permission form is completed.
Students will only be tested when they have symptoms.
No appointment is needed for students being tested on campus during the day. They will need an appointment if visiting the drive-up testing at the Compass Center. See below.
Do not send them to school. You may sign up for a time here for off-campus testing. You will then need to register your child for a test at https://register.txrapidtest.org/. You will receive a QR code after registering. Please take a screenshot or a printout of the QR code and bring it with you to the testing facility. The testing site for drive-up testing will be at the Compass Center. Please use designated parking slots and wait in your car till you receive a text or call to enter the building.
Jacksonville ISD students who attend at least one class on campus are eligible for free tests. Full-time virtual students are not eligible to receive the tests. Family members of students are not eligible. The goal of the state program is to proactively prevent the spread of COVID-19 at school by making free testing available for on-campus students. The tests are provided through a partnership between Jacksonville ISD, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, and the Texas Education Agency.
The district offers the tests as a convenient and free solution to families who want to know if their student is positive or negative. Free testing is one of many safeguards in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help schools remain safe for on-campus instruction
All testing is completely optional. No student or staff member will ever be required to take a test.
This testing program uses BinaxNOW tests, which provides results in 15 minutes and are administered using a nasal swab in the front area of the nostril. BinaxNOW tests are a rapid antigen test that detects the presence of protein antigens from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The manufacturer evaluated its tests and found BinaxNOW has a sensitivity (true positive rate) of 97.1 percent and specificity (true negative rate) of 98.5 percent.
Parents must complete a permission form before the test is administered. Students 18 and older may fill out their own consent. If your child does not have a consent form on file, you will be asked to pick up your child and follow the COVID-19 return to school protocol until a permission form is completed.
The district will begin accepting student consent forms for optional COVID-19 testing through Family Access on January 22nd and testing will begin on January 25 for students.
Parents will receive a phone call if the student is positive as well as a follow-up text and email for all results. The results also are shared with appropriate campus and district staff and public agencies so that contract tracing and notifications can occur. The identity of the student is available only to appropriate parties.
Staff who would like to be tested can register for a test at https://register.txrapidtest.org/. Staff will need to take a screenshot of the QR code or bring a print out of the QR code prior to testing.
