Optional COVID-19 Testing

Jacksonville ISD is offering a free, optional COVID-19 testing service to students who attend school on campus and whose parents would like for them to be tested. Staff members are also able to take advantage of this optional COVID-19 testing.

What forms are required to test?

If your child does not have a consent form completed for testing, you will be asked to pick up your child and follow the COVID-19 return to school protocol until the form is completed.
 
Can employees test?
Yes. Staff who would like to be tested should complete the consent found online at https://urgentcarekids.formstack.com/forms/k12_dshs_jacksonville_isd.
 
When will the test be administered?
On-campus by a test administrator when a student develops COVID-19 symptoms during the school day.  DO NOT send your child to school sick, we offer off-campus testing.  If your child does not have a consent form prior to testing, you will be asked to pick up your child and follow the COVID-19 return to school protocol until a permission form is completed.
 
Does my child need an appointment?
No appointment is needed for students being tested on campus during the day. They will need an appointment if using drive-up testing at the Compass Center or other location. 
 
What if my child gets sick after school hours and needs to be tested?
Do not send them to school. Click here to sign up for a time for drive-up testing located at the Compass Center. Please use designated parking slots and wait in your car till you receive a text or call to enter the building.
 
Who is eligible for the free tests?
Jacksonville ISD staff and students who attend at least one class on campus are eligible for free tests. Full-time virtual students are not eligible to receive the tests. Family members of students are not eligible.
 
Why is Jacksonville ISD offering the tests?
The district offers the tests as a convenient and free solution to families who want to know if their student is positive or negative. Free testing is one of many safeguards in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help schools remain safe for on-campus instruction.
 
Are tests required?
All testing is completely optional. No student or staff member is required to take a test.
 
What type of tests are given?
This testing program uses QuickVue tests, which provides results in about 10 minutes and are administered using a nasal swab in the front area of the nostril. QuickVue tests are a rapid antigen test that detects the presence of protein antigens from the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
 
How will I receive results?
Parents will receive an email for all results. If you opt out of email, someone from the Goodside Health team will call you to give results via phone and send an emailed copy if you request it. The results also are shared with appropriate campus and district staff and public agencies as required by DSHS. The identity of the student is available only to appropriate parties.

Parents must complete a consent form for minors before the test is administered. Staff and students who are 18 and older may fill out their own consent form for those over 18.If your child does not have a consent form on file, you will be asked to pick up your child and follow the COVID-19 return to school protocol until a permission form is completed.

Step 2:  Sign up for a testing appointment at the drive up testing facility located at JISD's Compass Center. You will then receive an email with instructions on where to park and a number to call when you arrive.
