JISD School Year 2020-2021

As we prepare for the 2020-21 school year, scheduled to begin for students on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, we are working to finalize the JISD Back to School Plan.  District and Campus leaders are committed to providing all students with challenging and age appropriate educational opportunities, especially during continued uncertainty and challenges associated with the pandemic.  We appreciate your patience as we wait to receive specific guidelines from the State level concerning on-campus instruction.

Our primary goals remain;

  • the health and wellness of staff and students,
  • excellent and equitable student learning experiences,
  • providing safe and healthy learning environments,
  • and re-opening and keeping open all JISD facilities.

This page will provide updates and information to help your family and our community prepare for the new school year.  We will continue to update topics as guidelines are received from Governor Abbott and Commissioner Morath.

As a reminder, adhere to these CDC recommendations:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands;
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick;
  • Stay home when you are sick;
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash;
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
All JISD facilities will have hand sanitizer dispensers at each entry, classroom, restrooms, and offices.  Temperature stations will be at each entry.  Face Shields or facemasks are to be worn by all adults entering a JISD facility.
To-Go lunches are being served Monday through Thursday from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.  This is located in the bus drive at East Side Elementary and is for all school age children.  Students must be in the car to pick up a meal.
