Mr. Mathemagician, Vernon Grote, Theater Arts Teacher, comes to life at Jacksonville Middle School.

Teachers often go to extremes to help students learn. A perfect example of this is the character created by Vernon Grote, Theater Arts teacher at Jacksonville Middle School. Mr. Grote invented the character of Mr. Mathemagician to teach math tips to students. “Each six weeks JMS is focusing on a subject area, this six weeks is math.” according to Mr. Grote, “The character was created to add a little fun to learning and to help students remember the math concepts taught.”

During the benchmark testing week Mr. Grote brought Mr. Mathemagician to life. “I sprinkle students with confetti and tell them now they are mathemagicians.” said Mr. Grote. “I know it brings enjoyment to what they are learning and hope that it gives them confidence in their abilities.”

Jacksonville Middle School will focus on science beginning October 8, the second six weeks of the 2007-2008 school year.
