Philosophy:

JISD school health services believes that along with parents, community, and school, we will promote normal development of the child through health education and positive attitudes in healthful living by strictly following Texas Department of Health Services guidelines, which should create an environment for the child that promotes optimal learning.

The district employs three RN’s and eight clinic assistants to assist students with all healthcare needs.

HEALTH SCREENINGS:

JISD health services conduct state mandated health screenings. Hearing, vision and spinal screenings are done according to law and students are referred to their health care provider if results are not within the normal limits.

IMMUNIZATIONS:

We enforce the Texas Department of State Health Services Immunization requirements. For more information on required vaccines please visit the following DSHS website:
http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/immunize/school/default.shtm

HEAD LICE:

JISD strictly enforces a NO NIT policy with regards to head lice. To enforce this policy when this condition arises parents are informed that they have two days EXCUSED for the entire school year. This has been very effective in reducing time lost from school for this problem.

MEDICATIONS:

Clinic assistants will assist and give medication:

PHYSICIAN “ORDERS”

Any student who is required to have specialized physical healthcare services during the school day must:

FIRST AID:

If a student is injured at school and requires medical care, the parent or guardian is responsible for the expense. If students do not have insurance, Medic aide, or CHIPS, parents/guardians may choose to purchase the accidental insurance that the district offers at the beginning of each school year.

All clinic staff are trained by the American Heart Association in CPR and First Aid. If a student is injured and it is determined that an ambulance is needed, the parent or guardian will assume responsibility of the expense.

DISEASE CONTROL:

JISD health services operates under the approved health rules, regulations, and standards adopted by the Cherokee County Health Department in accordance with the Texas Department of State Health Services.

If students have the following symptoms they will be excluded from class. Likewise, if your child has any of the following symptoms please do not them to school unless they have been seen by a physician or symptoms are gone:

If student is found to have one or more of the conditions listed above, the student will be sent home and a doctor’s note will be required prior to returning to school.

If you have any questions or concerns you may call Stephanie Wofford, RN at Jacksonville Middle School. (586-1196)
