JISD Gifted and Talented elementary students have created all of the components for their own Thanksgiving Day Parade. After reading, Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet, students learned about the puppeteer of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Tony Sarg.
First, students identified Tony’s varying gifts and talents from childhood and how this innovator became a master problem solver as he assisted Macy’s in creating the famous Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Next, students were challenged to complete STEAM Project creations: 1st graders- paddle, stick and cup puppets, 2nd graders- sack puppets, 3rd graders- balloon characters, and 4th graders- floats.
Finally, students were puppeteers, themselves as they used their creations to perform on video with a stage and green backdrop!
All students are excited to view and share their final collaborative product, The JISD Parade!
